Opposite Genders Salon began over 37 years ago with the concept of Individual attention. This mantra has become our hallmark… We are the leading salon in the tri-state region and boast the areas only Certified Master Colorists, Kelly Mackie and Melissa Arnold. From correcting serious color problems to creating beautiful new color, no color service is too big or small. All of our stylists receive advanced training both in the salon while also training in NYC under Redken Exchange to provide our customers the best experience and quality hair care. We pride ourselves knowing our stylists are constantly evolving their expertise through state-of-the-art techniques in cutting, styling and all chemical services to make you feel and look your best no matter the occasion.
Kelly is a Certified Master Colorist. “As a little girl, I would pack my overnight bag and go door-to-door in the neighborhood looking for anyone that would let me work on them! And if you ever came to visit, you were fair game.” Kelly has had the stylist gene since she was a small child. That interest grew into a career that has lasted over 39 years. Kelly has spent her career training and mentoring many stylists, all the while building a great life for herself and many others.
Melissa, the salon’s second Redken Certified Master Colorist, started her career in cosmetology at age 20 when she graduated from the International Beauty School in 2002. Opposite Genders has been her home ever since. She has had the opportunity to further her education with some of the world’s top stylists at the Graham Webb Academy and the Redken Exchange, 5th Avenue. There, she has obtained many advanced certifications in cutting and coloring.
Kim has been in the hair industry since 1984, starting in Baltimore, where she worked for 10 years before returning to Cumberland. She has been with Opposite Genders since 1996, during which time she has attended several educational trips to the Redken Exchange 5th Avenue NYC, and taken multiple classes with P.M., Graham Webb Academy, and International Conferences, NY. The pleasure of my career choice is the benefit of helping people feel better about themselves. Doesn’t everyone want to feel good when they look in the mirror.
Jenna is the newest addition to the salon. Jenna has been with Opposite Genders since 2014. With a passion for hair and makeup, Jenna decided at the age of 19 to pursue her dreams and turn that passion into a career. "My job is by far the most rewarding; nothing brings more joy to my day than seeing my clients leave my chair feeling happier, more beautiful about themselves."
